Van Praet wins on Powerslide Finishline Bi64 blades
Van Praet claims the first Belgian marathon ice skate victory
Enschede (NL) – It is only his first season on the ice, but Wannes van Praet (Zemst, Belgium) gained himself respect in Enschede last saturday. Van Praet, skating for the Dutch team De Veste schaatsenskeelershop.nl / Powerslide, claimed the victory in a race over 100 laps in the 1st division of the KPN marathon circuit, after an extremely fast race.
With this victory, Van Praet actually is the very first foreigner to win a Dutch marathon race in this season. Van Praet was part of a 6 man breakaway group, which had taken a distance on the pack just after mid race. Any attempts to close the gap were neutralized right away by his teammate Ted Ooievaar. Thanks to his helkp and the good cooperation in the lead group, the 6 in front managed to gain a decisive one lap lead on the pack. Then, in the final sprint, Van Praet intelligently managed to claim victory. Even though he was clearly surprised of his big success, Van Praet is going through a very successful ice season.
Actually, looking more cloisely to Van Praet´s history, one can find the explanation for his apparent sudden uprise. In summer, Van Praet is a very active inline speedskater, and in this discipline he has already built up a respectable resumé. In the same team, De Veste schaatsenskeelershop.nl / Powerslide, he skates the complete dutch racing competition. With his latest victory he shows to be strong not only on wheels, but also on blades. This victory, brings Van Praet one step closer to realizing his dream of becoming a successful longtrack ice speedskater.
